Shīlì: A new Cirque Du Soleil show inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender
(SCAD, 2018)
Shīlì, the ancient Chinese word for "loss", is my Master's thesis project at SCAD and a conceptual Cirque Du Soleil show set in the world of the Nickelodeon IP, "Avatar: The Last Airbender." The show will be presented in a series of circus/martial art acts intertwined with a more explicit storyline than most other Cirque Du Soleil shows. Staged in the round, the show follows the general of the Fire Nation army on a quest to rescue his family from the Spirit World. As he journeys across the land to find his family, his inner self transforms from a proud general into a humble man, slowly sacrificing physical and psychological parts of himself along the way and ultimately ending with him relinquishing his fire bending abilities. At the end of his journey he is nothing more than a simple man with his wife and daughter. And that’s enough.
Evermore Park Expansion -Telenor Ruins/Ladrin Tower
(SCAD, 2018)
Ladrin Tower is an attraction attached to the Telenor Ruins expansion area of Evermore Park in Utah. Mysteriously reclaimed by the Sky Giants, Ladrin Tower floats in the mists of Telenor Ruins, Named after the arrogant king who wished to reach the heavens, guests can now climb the enchanted tower to view the vast kingdom below. But beware, for those who venture up the tower are sure to encounter one of the Sky Giant guardians, and they are not friendly to trespassers. The area features the tower itself, a restroom, and a gift shop located at the exit to the tower. The dual spiral-staircase design allows for a higher capacity for travelers as well as ease of climbing both up and down.
Tybee Island North Beach Expansion -Loggerhead Splash Pad
(SCAD, 2018)
Located on the north end of the proposed expansion site, the Loggerhead Splash Pad is a children’s interactive play area designed to accompany the new Marine Science Center. The play area features themed elements based off of Tybee’s local loggerhead turtles and dolphins, including a loggerhead turtle splash area, abuoy jungle gym, rideable dolphins, a walk-through waterfall cave and a slide. In addition to these amenities for kids, the area also features numerous benches and relaxation spots filled with local tropical foliage, adding appeal for people of all ages.
Celestia Theme Park Masterplan
(SCAD, 2018)
Proposed to be built in the Galloway Forest Park in Southwest Scotland, "Celestia" is a natural theme park/dark sky park celebrating the beauty of the natural and the mysteries of the supernatural. This park is a destination for adventure and refreshment as guests explore the fairy forests, mermaid lagoons, and ancient ruins under the cover of the brightest night sky.
This project was a collaboration between myself, Morgan Devlin, and Maris Piza. My main focus during this project was to create Selkie Lagoon, an 80,000 sq. foot land within Celestia that is devoted to the beauty and dangerous allure of the supernatural world. The land features two rides, three merchandise locations, two restaurants, and a nighttime show. Below you can see some of my concept art for the Voyage of the Selkie boat ride, The Selkie's Coat Gift Shop, The Craggy Rock Pub, and the Song of the Stars Nighttime Spectacular.
Pikmin: The Great Pik-Pik Rescue Queue Design
(SCAD, 2017)
"Pikmin: The Great Pik-Pik Rescue" is a conceptual dark ride attraction for Universal Studios Osaka based around the Nintendo video game IP, Pikmin. Guests board a miniature rocket and join Captain Olimar and his tiny Pikmin friends on a daring mission to rescue his partner, Louie. Guests will fly through grass blade forests, over puddle lakes, and into the depths of the Dream Den. You may even collect some treasure along the way.
For this project, I developed the attraction queue line plan and story beats for both the queue and ride experience. In the Pikmin video game series, guests explore the Distant Planet, which is essentially earth only you're one inch tall. Also, human garbage is considered treasure. Knowing this, I designed the queue to make guests feel extremely small, relying on forced perspective and tall scenery to accomplish this. Likewise, I used giant found objects to create numerous interactive areas in the queue experience, such as flower pot playgrounds and crescent roll dough tunnels.

Metroid Prime: Phazon Blast Ride Design
(SCAD, 2017)
"Metroid Prime: Phazon Blast" is a high-speed thrill/shooter attraction based around the Nintendo IP of the same name. Guests will join bounty hunter, Samus Aran, on a daring mission to save the planet of Tallon IV from a corrupt substance known as Phazon. After boarding an Enhanced Motion Vehicle, you will fly through the icy tundras of Phendrana Drifts, the lava filled Magmoor Caverns, and ultimately drop 60 feet down into Impact Crater for a showdown with Metroid Prime. This attraction was conceptualized to go into Universal Orlando's Nintendo Land.
The Hearth (Disney Imaginations Semi-Finalist Project 2017)
"The Hearth" was a project for the 2017 Disney Imaginations Competition. The prompt for the competition was to create a space/experience in your university's town/city that benefited the university and the city in a positive way. Because over half of the student population and SCAD are international students and Savannah hosts an abundance of people from all over the world, we decided to create a place that could help individuals with homesickness. "The Hearth" is a spiral-shaped gathering place for all people, comprised of three distinct areas. The Global Garden around the outside perimeter features plants, animals, sounds, and smells from places all over the world. The Market features foods and wares from around the world, including a seasonal cafe where guests can submit recipes from their homes that will be served periodically throughout the year. Lastly, the Central Hearth in the middle of the space features a wide open meeting/mingling space with a giant flame sculpture in the center symbolizing the ancient tradition of gathering around fire for safety and company.
My Neighbor Totoro Sushi Restaurant Marketing Campaign
(SCAD, 2017)
For this project, I created a marketing campaign/theming overlay for Sushi Zen located in Downtown Savannah. The theming tie-in with "My Neighbor Totoro" will re-theme the interior of the restaurant to resemble the Kusakabe family house and the outside patio as Totoro's grove. The menu will also feature seasonal healthy exclusives themed after the movie, such as the Mei Roll and Totoro Rice Balls. And of course, the Catbus will deliver your food directly to you in record time!
